"What have you been reading?"

What have you been reading that you would recommend to others?

I've been reading all sorts of books. I've loved Kristin Hannah's Magic Hour. I was very proud I only cried once and at a weird moment, typical of me. I really enjoyed Shirley Jump's The Bachelor Preferred Pastry which was the light read I needed when I picked it up. I also enjoyed Heiress for Hire by Erin McCarthy. It wasn't exactly what I expected and ended up being cute. It kind of bums me out that I missed the first book, but that's ok.

I just finished Prep for my book club. I liked it overall, but it should make an interesting discussion.

So many books, so little time. The next month or two should be slow so I'm picking up some new authors to read in anticipation of June's big release.

I've been on a Celeste Bradley kick. I have one more book in her Liar's Club series and then I'm going to start her Royal Four Series. I took a break from reading Regency and then I picked her up and got hooked.

I also started a new author(recommended by the ladies of the JDBB). J.R. Ward started the Black Dagger Brotherhood Series about Vampires. I'm hooked and absolutely love this series(I've read the first 2 and the 3rd comes out in Sept.).

I still have a long TBR pile but I haven't gotten to it b/c of these authors.

JDBB actually spilled over the JMBB so a few of the ladies are reading J.R. Ward. I'm not too big into vampires. I wanted to be, but I couldn't find a good series. Is it good and what makes it good for you?

   April,

I wasn't into the vampire thing either until I read MaryJanice Davidson's Undead Series. It's full of humour(like JB) and it's not too gory. So then I started reading a few vamp short stories by other authors so I could get a feel for the more serious stuff.
I like Ward b/c the characters are so captivating. Her books can be gory but the love story of the H/H are what really capture me. If you take out the gory vamp stuff this is really a love story and it's very gripping. I just love the way she describes stuff.

I actually don't mind the gore. I'm kind of bloodthirsty if I know to expect it. I think it's the weird balance of genre reading I do. I always flip between horror and romance though I've kind of changed and now read more crime detective which is still gory. I know people who don't read the In Death books and I don't find they bother me at all. I just never read a good vampire book. I'm sort of open to it though.

I was ok with the shape shifting and witches with Nora Roberts though they're not my favorites, but I didn't care for the superheroes of Julie Kenner. Then again, I like JB and her witches so it all depends.

Are one or both series writers? Do I have to read in a particular order?

MaryJanice Davidson's Undead Series should be read in order.
Undead & Unwed
Undead & Unemployed
Undead & Unappreciated
Undead & Unreturnable(out in PB in June)

She has other books(a werewolf series but I haven't got to them yet).

J.R Ward's Brother of the Black Dagger should definetly be read in order also.
Dark Lover
Lover Eternal
Lover Awakened(out in Sept).
