"Historicals"

With Jill Barnett announcing a historical, are you a historical reader? What's your favorite? Favorite time period and location?

I, personally, would never say I was a historical reader, but I do read them. They used to be all I read, but I've strayed. That said, I do pick one up every so often. I actually prefer American history which is only funny because I hated learning about American history. I don't know if I can pick one book to be a favorite. I would put anything by Mary Jo Putney on that list though and totally looking forward to her new series. My favorite Jill Barnett historical is Dreaming and Surrender a Dream.

I love a good historical set in the USA and two of the authors who come to mind, other than Jill, are Rebecca Wade (who no longer writes, sadly) and Susan Kay Law. SKL is currently writing women's fiction, but I hope she returns to historicals some day.

I also like Victorian Egypt. The Amelia Peabody series takes place in England and Egypt and I do love what I've read of this historical mystery series so far. Connie Brockway wrote an amazing book set in Victorian Egypt - As You Desire. Hmm, I think I should reread it.

I also love Mary Jo Putney's and Laura Kinsale's historicals because they are darker, and rich with tortured heroes and different storylines or locales.

My favorite Jill historical so far is a toss up between Imagine and the one I'm currently reading (for the first time), Surrender A Dream.

Oh, I love Imagine. It makes me happy. Let me know what you think about Surrender a Dream. I hate that its initials are SAD though.

I was going to read a historical this week, but I changed my mind. Soon though!
