"It's October! What Are you reading?"
 |
I love the crispness that comes with autumn and where I live, autumn starts in earnest in October. The days have that crisp, alive feeling to them. The leaves start to change glorious colors. And everything smells so earthy and nurturing. Can you tell this is my favorite season? For some reason, I've been on a historical kick that started toward the end of September. I picked up some reissued Susan Wiggs historicals and fell in love with the Calhoune family and SW's vivid storytelling and very American settings. Now I'm reading Colleen Gleason's Gardella Vampire Chronicles. I read book one last year after meeting Colleen at the RWA conference in Dallas. She spoke at the PRO workshop for writers who are not yet published but who have completed and submitted at least one finished manuscript. She really impressed me during that talk so I thought I would give her books a try. I don't know why I waited over a year to read the second, third and fourth books in this 5 book series. GAH! They are amazing. It's Buffy the Vampire Slayer meets Jane Austen. It's all the pageantry of Regency England and Italy with the dark threat of vampires. It's truly amazing! Colleen's vampires are definitely not the good guys, though there is room for shades of gray. The heroine does not have an easy time of things. She has to work for all she receives. There is danger, intrigue, darkness and some of the frippery that one expects of Regency set historicals. I'm loving them! The books are (in order): The Rest Falls Away Rises The Night The Bleeding Dusk When Twilight Burns As Shadows Fade (the conclusion, to be released March 2009) I'm also reading Sherrilyn Kennyon's newest Dark Hunters book - Acheron. The book is huge! But very good and actually reads quite quickly. I'm enjoying the different tone of the first section of the book, which is Acheron's past. I hope to start the second half this weekend. So, what are you reading? ~naomi www.chasinginspiration.blogspot.com |

HI everyone! It's been awhile since I visited you all, I feel like the long lost cousin. LOL HOpe everyone had a great summer. Sorry to hear about the lost of your job Naomi, hope you can get another position quickly. I am still reading the vampire genre, with "Vampires are Forever" (love this series..the vamps are Canadian!! and "Legacy". Though I did fit in a bio. "Life with my sister Madonna." It was very interesting. Sometimes I think its better not to know so much about the famous...it just takes the joy out of watching/listening/seeing them do their thing. I'm also reading Nicolas Sparks newest book "The Lucky One." Just started so I can't tell you how it is yet. Have any of you read Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series and are you headed to the movie theatre? I read the first books last year and loved them, even though they are meant for teens. I'm excited to see the movie, but hope they haven't wreck it. |

Well, it's November and I'm reading through the first of the new historicals I'm writing. I would love some reading time to read something else! I have a couple of my friends' books that will be coming out next year on my desk to read next. Although while reading this newest book of mine, I have realized that this hero is absolutely one of the best I've ever written, and the heroine is certainly his match, a woman who takes charge of things and sometimes her actions create some havoc. Her circumstance have given her no choice but to be who she is, or who she thought she was. The book is set in medieval Scotland. Their love story has to have more forgiveness than most. In January, I will start the next book, which is tied to this one via the heroines from each story and is also set in the north of medieval Scotland. This is a new heroine for me and the hero needs a strong woman, one as strong and pig-headed as he is. These two have too much pride and lock horns over it all too often. But their love will be just as strong and amazing. Happy Thanksgiving! JB |
